Walk No. 1 - YRE - The Traveler’s Walk (5/10/15 Km) Starts (walker’s choice) - Travelodge 718 Lakeshore Dr. You will walk to the historical site of Champlain Park where the La Vase River flows into Lake Nipissing. (Route of the Voyageurs)
Walk No. 2 - SEAS - Tim to Tim to Tim Walk (5/10km) Starts (walker’s choice) - Tim Horton, 368 Lakeshore Dr. Tim to Tim Walk brings you along the famous Kate Pace Way & Kinsman and on to North Bay's charming downtown.
Additional special activity M. Chris Mayne, city counsellor has offered to take delegates who would be interested in walking and canoeing in the Footsteps of the Voyageurs on a short excursion of approximately 3 hours. Friday May 22nd, 2009 - Callander
Visit & walk friendly Callander on the shores of Callander Bay (Lake Nipissing). From North Bay it is approximately a 15 minute drive.
Walk No. 3 - MUDW - La Vase River & the Cranberry Trail (6/12 km) Starts at 9:30 - James Kerr Park, River Bend Rd. The trail will bring you along the most picturesque scenery of Callander.
Walk No. 4 - SEAS - Shore of Callander Bay (5-10 km) Starts (walker’s choice) - Lucky 13 Store, Main St. Callander - Walk on the shores of Callander beach, visit gardens of master gardeners from the Callander Horticulture Society and complete your walk in the countryside & the Wasi Falls river.
Saturday May 23rd, 2009 – Nipissing University
Walk No. 5 - Event Walk - President’s Walk (5/10 km) Starts 9:00 a.m. - Governors’ House - Nipissing University Campus North Bay You will walk on the University campus trails.
Sunday May 24th, 2009 – North Bay & Mattawa
Walk No.6 - Event Walk - Convention Walk (5/10 km) Start at 8:40 a.m. at Golden Mile Beach’s amphitheatre. You will walk the beautiful Golden Mile Beach along Lake Nipissing then on to the charming North Bay downtown.
Walk No. 7 - Event walk - Post Convention Walk - Mattawa (5/10 km) Start at 4:00 pm - Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park (55 km east of North Bay on your way to Ottawa) Participate in the schedule event walk, visit the Voyageurs Museum and the Ecology Center (admission fee $12 per car) or stay with fellow walkers for an evening meal and a campfire/sing a long.
Long Stay… Visit the Ecology Centre Stay overnight at the Ecology Center in Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park…Visit Mattawa & Surroundings… A unique experience in the ‘WILDERNESS’. Monday May 25th, 2009 - Mattawa
Walk No. 8 - SSEAS - Post Convention Tour Walk in Mattawa (5/10km) Start 9:00 a.m. – Travel Information Centre in Mattawa. After a nourishing breakfast at the Ecology Center, drive to nearby Mattawa (direction Ottawa) and walk through town on the beautiful Ottawa & Mattawa Rivers. You will admire the life size wooden of 12 sculptures of the most famous Voyageurs.

NOTICE Please note that the trip now starts in Mattawa and ends in Sudbury with a visit and walk in Sturgeon Falls on our way back to North Bay. Those on the Post Convention Tour will be able to enjoy the company of friends who are participating in the overnight stay and will be walking in the Footsteps of the Voyageurs in the Mattawa area on Sunday and Monday. From the south: Take Hwy 11 to Bracebridge and exit at the Hwy 118 West exit to Bracebridge. Continue to Ecclestone Dr. which will be on your right. Take Ecclestone toward town and turn right at the four-way blinking light at the intersection of Ecclestone, Entrance Rd. and Manitoba St. Turn immediately right into the parking lot of the Bird Mill Mews Info. Centre. From the north: Take Hwy 11 south to Bracebridge and exit at Rd. 42 West [Taylor Rd.]. Follow Taylor Rd. into town and turn left at the lights at Taylor and Manitoba Streets. Go one block to the four-way blinking light at the intersection of Ecclestone, Entrance Rd. and Manitoba St. Turn left at the light and then right into the parking lot of the Bird Mill Mews Information Centre.

Located on the Muskoka River, Bracebridge is a busy small town and has much to offer. The first part of the walk goes around the Falls and the bay below the dam, then into the older part of town where you will see many fine Victorian homes and trees on both sides of the road. Finally, you visit a covered bridge and then go through newer parts of the town before heading back to the start point.

From Ottawa: Exit Hwy 17 at Hwy 11 S (toward Toronto). Exit 11S at exit 329. At the stop sign turn right on Lake Nosbonsing Rd. Take the next right onto Callander Rd. (old hwy 11). The next left will take you into Callander. Lucky 13 will be on your right passed the Callander Plaza. Free parking at the plaza across the road. From Toronto: Exit Hwy 11 at exit 329 (Callander / Astorville). At the stop sign turn right on Lake Nosbonsing Rd. Take the next right onto Callander Rd. (old hwy 11). The next left will take you into Callander. Lucky 13 will be on your right passed the Callander Plaza. Free parking at the plaza across the road. 08:00 - dusk. Restaurant hours may vary on week-ends or holidays. This route follows roadways, sidewalks and some gravel trails. There are no significant obstacles.

Going North on Highway 11, continue past the Wabi River, turn right to follow Highway 11B to New Liskeard. (Going south on Highway 11, continue past the Husky through the lights and turn left to follow Highway 11B to New Liskeard. Follow Highway 11B past MacDonald’s, past Temiskaming Square (on your left), follow curve left past Ford Dealer, follow curve right past Kentucky Fried Chicken. Continue over the bridge straight through the lights (this is Armstrong St.) to the Waterfront Inn. Turn right at Waterfront Inn’s parking lot. Pool Fitness Centre is on your left. M-Th 08:00-22:00; Fri. 08:00-20:00; Sat 10:00-20:00; Sun 12:00-17:00. Closed Christmas and New Year’s Day. Open all other statutory holidays - call ahead to confirm times. As you enter North Bay from Ottawa or Toronto, follow the by-pass. At the 2nd traffic light, turn left on Fisher. Follow Fisher to Main St. [Hwy 11 B] and turn left on Main. Main will become Lakeshore after the overpass. Follow Lakeshore for about 4.5 km. The Travelodge will be on the left. From Sudbury [west], follow the by-pass up to the 5th traffic light. Turn right on Fisher and follow it to Main St. Turn left on Main [Hwy 11 B]. After the overpass, it will become Lakeshore Dr. Follow Lakeshore for about 4.5 km. The Travelodge will be on the left. Dawn - Dusk daily. Travelodge is open every day of the year. Two routes - 10k and 15k walks are available. These routes follow roadways, sidewalks and bike / walking pathways and have no significant obstacles. Suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Pets are welcome but must be on a leash and cleaned up after.

Take Hwy. 69 to Parry Sound - take the Bowes Street exit towards Parry Sound. Follow Bowes Street until it changes to Seguin Street. Continue straight on Seguin Street until it forces you to turn right on Church Street. Turn right on Church and the Travellers’ Hotel is the yellow building on the corner of the first street to your right - Mary St. Open daily dawn to dusk. A nice walk on a well maintained pathway along the Sound and then through the town.

From the East: Just past the bridge turn left on Pembroke St. Bay street and the Inn are at the T at the end of Pembroke St. From the West: Just past the junction of HWY 64 turn Right on Pembroke St. Bay street and the Inn are at the T at the end of Pembroke St. M-F 07:00 - 18:00; S&S 10:30 - 18:00 Closed holidays. An easy walk on quiet streets with a couple of moderate hills along river banks. A pleasant walk through a small French-Canadian village known as a ‘paper town’. An optional is a 5 km.walk in town and then a 10 km. min. drive to the Sturgeon House Museum to complete your 10 km. walk on nature trails. Bug protection may be required.

A visit to the Lourdes Grotto [significant hill climb, but optional route available], then trails along Junction Creek through the city.

Tim Hortons in across from Costco, at Westmount. 09:30-18:30 Please do not ask for walk box during the morning ‘rush hour’. A walk on streets of ‘new’ Sudbury and a visit to the mall.
